Side note: While I hate cover changes because I usually can’t afford to get the updated version in its entirety, this cover change was definitely for the better. Where does the Empire go now?! What will the Nightbringer do?! DOES ANYONE GET A HAPPY ENDING!?! Such despair for Elias, Laia, and the Shrike. She fixes things right? I’m pretty sure Tahir sat at her computer laughing nefariously over the horrors she brought upon this cast of characters. The novel is incredibly well-written and tells the woven story of a slave girl and a Martial soldier. The book is a YA Fantasy set in a Martial Empire. ![]() I just finished reading it recently and I was completely blown away! I immediately grabbed Ursula’s book, Poor Unfortunate Soul. Overall thoughts:I am a huge Disney fan! Since I was little I loved everything Disney and it’s no surprise that I adore The Little Mermaid! Considering the basis of this blog’s design is based off beachy style! I was in Barnes & Nobles several months ago when I saw on one of the display shelves that Disney Published and author Serena Valentino teamed up to write books based off Disney villain’s points of views. Genre wise Poor Unfortunate Soul belongs to Young Adult and Fantasy.ĭescription: The third novel in Serena Valentino’s (Fairest of All, Beast Within) “VILLAINS” trilogy, featuring the story of the Little Mermaid from the perspective of the sea witch Ursula. It is the the third book in the Villans trilogy. What I also really loved about Poor Unfortunate Soul was the fact that when you remove the cover sleeve, the cover becomes Ursula’s human counterpart, Vanessa.īasics: Poor Unfortunate Soul was released on July 26th 2016, published by Disney Press and is 208 pages long. ![]() Everyone knows The Little Mermaid and Ursula is one of the most iconic villains ever and I really like this cover. The Cover: I really love this cover especially for a retelling according to the villain’s side of the story. ![]() ![]() ![]() We had a family friend who knew Roald Dahl - one of my favourite authors - and this friend offered to show Dahl my story. ![]() ![]() It turned out to be quite a long story, really a short novel, and I rewrote it the next summer. I started out writing sci-fi epics (my Star Wars phase) then went on to swords and sorcery tales (my Dungeons and Dragons phase) and then, during the summer holiday when I was fourteen, started on a humorous story about a boy addicted to video games (written, of course, during my video game phase). and on the opposite coast, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. At around twelve I decided I wanted to be a writer (this came after deciding I wanted to be a scientist, and then an architect). I was born in 1967 in Port Alberni, a mill town on Vancouver Island, British Columbia but spent the bulk of my childhood in Victoria, B.C. ![]() ![]() ![]() Tom Shadyac, author of Life’s Operating Manual Jedidiah Jenkins is a mystic disguised as a millennial. ![]() This is much more than a book about a bike ride. a guy deeply connected to his personal truth and just so refreshingly present. In this unflinchingly honest memoir, Jed narrates his adventure - the people and places he encountered on his way to the bottom of the world - as well as the internal journey that started it all. He chronicled the trip on Instagram, where his photos and reflections drew hundreds of thousands of followers, all gathered around the question: What makes a life worth living? Miss Crawford’s career was terminated when she became hopelessly crippled in an “accident” engineered by her embittered and jealous sister. Miss Davis’ adult failure and her mad belief that her sister deliberately eclipsed her provides the basis for the corrosive relationship that ties them. Her sister, Joan Crawford, was a failure as a child but a great success as an adult movie star. Lukas Heller’s screenplay is based on a book by Henry Farrell and is concerned with two aged actresses immured in their Hollywood home. Stripped of unessentials, the focus would sharpen, the spell would be heightened, and the grim, relentless story - broken as it is already with bizarre humor - would be more totally successful. Baby Jane could be improved by cutting subplotting and exposition of minor characters, unimportant in the total framework and not diverting in themselves. Such a story, essentially a short story or mystery yarn rather than a narrative with the development and change of a novel, has to be told in almost breathless fashion, one incident piled upon another, flashing trickery that binds without unnecessary explanation. The danger against which the romance develops is larger than the characters involved. They may be caught up in global intrigue - many romantic thrillers are spy novels - or meet during a disaster.
